A 31-YEAR-OLD Bristol man has been arrested in Ireland in connection with an attempted murder and a separate serious assault in Bristol.

Simeon Langford, of the St Paul’s area, was initially being sought for a breach of his licence which resulted in a recall to prison.

The police issued a wanted appeal to try and locate him.

During the course of police enquiries, Langford was linked to a serious assault on a woman in the St Paul’s area of Bristol on Thursday, June 2 and the attempted murder of a woman in Wilder Street, Bristol on Saturday, June 11.

Further enquiries confirmed Langford had travelled to Ireland and the police worked with the Crown Prosecution Service to obtain a European Arrest Warrant (EAW), which was issued last week.

Langford was arrested by An Garda Síochána officers in Cork on Thursday, August 13 under the EAW which was issued for offences of attempted murder, assault and theft of a purse.

He appeared before the High Court in Dublin last Friday and has been remanded in custody until the next hearing later today.

Det Supt Carolyn Belafonte said: “We’re grateful for all the support we’ve received throughout this complex and evolving inquiry especially from our colleagues in the National Crime Agency, the An Garda Síochána and the Crown Prosecution Service.”
