HUNDREDS of pounds were raised during a fun day in Thornbury to support people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The MS Peoples Help Fun Day, which took place on Saturday (August 22), saw St Mary’s Street filled with a ukulele band performing to the crowds as well as a barbecue and tombola.

A crowd favourite was the special guests of two Minions, who danced and wandered around the town for children to take photos with.

Over £400 was raised during the event, all of which will go to helping people with MS.
Shaun McCarthy, chairman of MS Peoples Help, said the charity’s first fun day was a huge success.

“The day went so well we are already looking to organise another one, which will probably take place sometime after Christmas – we just need to sit down with the charity trustees and choose a date,” he said.

“Christine Wall, our trustee and shop manager, organised the day with help from some of our great volunteers.

“We were very lucky with the weather which was great and there were lots of people around, especially in the morning, and to line up for a photo with the Minions, donating 50p at a time.

“People really enjoyed the music from the ukulele band as well - -they off with some great songs, which helped draw attention to the event and sometimes got people singing.

“We raised £410 – but there are still donations coming, so the total could grow. It’s a great amount considering it was a small event, so we are definitely hosting one again.

“A great day was had by all and a huge thank you to all who helped make the day a success.”
