ORGANISERS of the Pilning Flower Show are hoping for a record number of entries as the event returns for its 46th year this weekend.

The team of volunteers who organise the show hope that the 50 percent increase in prize money this year will  significantly increase the number of entries on Saturday.

Held at St Peter’s School, this year’s show will raise money for local children’s charity Pilning Pips Pre-School.

Organiser Richard Edwards said team was aiming is to maintain the success of the fun and traditional community event.

“It’s free to enter and there’s something for everyone with categories for; vegetables, flowers, fruit, preserves, baking, wine/cider, photography, flower arranging, children’s classes and crafts,” he said.

“The children’s classes are particularly important as they are the future. We encourage them each year by visiting the local schools to assist in sowing sunflowers and to get them design the show’s poster and programme cover. 

“Nora Kosztik from Severn Beach School was the winning designer this time around.”

The show offers visitors numerous exhibits as well as homemade cakes and teas, a bumper raffle and a charity auction of show produce and donated items - which includes two male gardeners for a day from Elmtree Garden Contractors.

As well as on line and postal entries they can be received at the school on Friday evening from 7pm to 8pm or on the show morning before 10:45am.  

The show opens to the public for viewing and to reveal the winners at 2.15pm.

Programmes are now available for the show from local shops including Londis, McColl’s and Dinky Deli.
