A FINANCIAL business in Thornbury has welcomed its only female advisor to the team.
Sophie Haslehurst, 28, has joined the otherwise male-dominated team at Sovereign, High Street.
Now living in the town, Mrs Haslehurst moved down from London to escape the urban scene and continue her eight-year career as a financial advisor.
“Even though I am the only financial advisor alongside three other men, it’s actually a pretty high ratio,” she said.
“I’ve been told only about four per cent are women, and especially not women under the age of 30.
“I moved down with my husband Tim, 34, as we wanted to be in the West Country and chose Thornbury because we think it is a beautiful town with a nice community feel.
“I’ve always been interested in finance and I love people and helping people and although it seems unusual, I come from a medical family – so it’s sort of the same in having to explain complicated matters in a way people can understand.”
Mrs Haslehurst has praised the friendly and welcoming town and says she is no stranger to being surrounded by men predominantly.
“I am used to being the only girl with five brothers.”
