A CONTROVERSIAL development of 125 new homes in Thornbury will be investigated by South Gloucestershire Council during a site visit this week.

Linden Homes has applied for permission to build the houses on land at Post Farm, saying the development would create new green public spaces and meet the area’s housing need.

Residents and councillors have fought to protect the town from the development, with Thornbury Town Council arguing the area has had its “fair share” of new housing and any more would cause infrastructure problems.

Cllor Maggie Tyrrell, chairman of the town development committee, said: “Thornbury has accepted more and more housing, and this development would bring more.

“If more housing is needed, the government should put together a better process and look around South Gloucestershire for where it is actually needed.”

Gaynor Parkinson, strategic land and planning manager at Linden Homes, told the Gazette the developer had worked "very hard" to formulate the best possible proposals at Post Farm.

The council’s sites inspection (west) sub-committee will visit the site on Friday at 11.30am.
