A SIX year old girl from Thornbury who is cutting her hair for charity has raised over £1,200 in sponsorship money in less than a week.

Olivia Kingscott is having her long blonde hair cut back to shoulder length for Cancer Research UK, with the cut hair being donated to a charity that makes wigs for those suffering with cancer.

“By cutting my hair, I wanted to make sure that people with cancer might be able to have some,” said Olivia.

“I said I wanted to raise £155, but now it is almost £1,300!”

Olivia’s parents posted a video of her on Facebook which was viewed over 20,000 times within the first 24 hours.

“We are extremely proud of our little girl and how she has become such a thoughtful huge hearted person,” said Rick Kingscott, Olivia’s father and owner of RicksInk Tattooing in Thornbury.

He added: “We gave her the chance to sleep on the idea, to think about whether she really was really serious about it. But she insisted it was something she wanted to do.”

Olivia will be getting her hair cut at the Swan Inn, Thornbury on Sunday December 20 at 1pm for anyone to come and support.

“We can’t believe how quickly the video was taken up by the community and how many people have seen it and donated,” said Becky Kingscott, Olivia’s mother.

“All of her friends and teachers from school have seen the video and want to come watch so we thought we would make a day of it.”

Olivia is still raising money for Cancer Research UK, information on how to donate can be found on the JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/RicksInk-Thornbury/
