A CHARITY from Thornbury for people suffering with multiple sclerosis has donated to a hospital department to help in the work it does to combat the disease.

Members of MS Peoples Help, who have two shops in the town, presented the cheque for £5,000 to Dr David Cottrell of the Bristol and Avon Multiple Sclerosis Centre at Southmead Hospital on Wednesday, February 3,

The charity, which was started 14 years ago by Shaun McCarthy and Roger Wall to help those suffering with the condition through fundraising and free help in DIY services, has now donated £20,000 to BrAMS over the past few years.

Dr David Cottrell, consultant neurologist at BrAMS said: "We really appreciate this donation, this really does help us to help people with MS.

“This is the third donation from MS Peoples Help, and this latest donation will go to helping with our research to look ways to help with thinking and memory.”

The charity’s chairman Shaun McCarthy said: "Roger and I both have MS and started MS Peoples Help around to help people suffering from MS.

“We are once again delighted to raise money for BrAMS, we receive treatment and regular help from BrAMS, along with about 4,000 other people.

“It is really good to have the chance to give something back to such a fantastic support centre.

“Thank you to all who donate items and all of our volunteers, who we couldn't manage without.”
