AN AWARD winning garden designer and author has given a talk in Thornbury in aid of fundraising for charity.

Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall, mother of famous chef Hugh, spoke to guests about gardening and her series of “Good Granny” advice books at an afternoon tea event hosted by St Peter’s Hospice Severnside Group at Thornbury Methodist Church Hall.

Also during the event, a cheque was presented to the hospice for £2,000 by Severnside Support Group chair Kath Burgess.

St Peter’s Hospice community fundraiser, Louisa James, said: “We had a wonderful afternoon with Jane who told us many fascinating stories and gave some great gardening tips. It was a lovely event enjoyed by all.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks once again to the Severnside Support Group who organised another interesting event for the hospice. Last year we celebrated the group’s 30th anniversary and since then they have not slowed down their fundraising activities.

“This group has worked tirelessly over the past 31 years to support the hospice and raise over £300,000. Without the support of such groups we could not continue caring for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”

As Bristol’s only adult hospice, St Peter’s Hospice cares for more than 2,000 patients each year as well as supporting family members.

All services are provided free of charge but this care costs around £19,000 a day. For around £14,000 of that, the hospice relies on gifts in wills, kind donations and funds generated by the hospice shops.
