THE GAZETTE will be hosting an EU referendum debate in Thornbury next week, with members of the public invited to participate.

The event, which will take place at The Castle School, Thornbury, on Wednesday, June 8, will give the audience a chance to field any questions over the imminent referendum they feel have so far been unanswered to political experts on the panel.

Speaking on behalf of the “Leave” argument are UKIP South West MEP Dr Julia Reid and Dan Evans, South West regional chairman of Young Independence.

On the other side of the argument, backing the case to remain in the EU, is Hadleigh Roberts, vice chairman of Bristol Labour Party and the Labour parliamentary candidate form Thornbury and Yate in 2015, and Philip Cole, chairman of the “Stronger In” group in Cheltenham.

Tickets for the debate will cost only £1, and will be on sale from Thursday, June 2 at Thornbury Town Hall, and from Monday, June 6 from The Castle School main reception.

Tickets will also be available on the night.

Doors open at 6.30pm, with the debate running from 7pm to 8pm.

Gazette Thornbury reporter Aaron Sims, who will be chairing the debate, said: “Having this discussion in Thornbury was an obvious call.

“This is such an important issue, and many people in and around the town have said to me, even now, they are still not sure how to vote because they have not got all the information.

“By bringing the discussion to Thornbury, we have a great opportunity to ask questions, learn more about how this big decision looming over us will affect us directly, and make up our minds on the matter."
