PUPILS from a primary school in Thornbury have held a “trashion show” to raise awareness of recycling.

The fashion show at St Mary’s School featured a range of designer outfits, made and modelled by the children, which were made entirely from recycled materials.

The event, which was organised by the school council and opened by Thornbury mayor Cllr Helen Harrison, the designers and models were able to raise £185 for Thornbury children’s charity Jigsaw.

Members of the charity were on hand to enjoy the show, and helped the PTFA in serving refreshments to the guests.

Also helping out on the day were staff from the South Gloucestershire Council waste minimisation and enforcement officer Ross Pead, who along with his team, gave out information on recycling from a stand, along with plenty of goodies.

Keziah Welsh from the school council said: "The trashion show was an enjoyable way to do more with rubbish and have a memorable time.

“It was great to raise money for Jigsaw, to help children with disabilities and other needs."

Zoe Bonnett from year six, one of the models in the show, said: I loved being a model because we got to see everyone else's costumes backstage, and the atmosphere with all the other models was amazing."

Jemma Harris, one of the models from year four, added: "It was quite scary the first time I went on stage but the last time I found out quite fun because I got into it more and the audience were clapping and cheering."

Izzy Craig from year three said: "I liked looking at all of the outfits that the other people had made, and I really liked that it was all to raise money for a charity."
