MORE THAN 120 Charfield residents braved the rain last weekend for a street party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The party on Manor Lane, which took place on Saturday, June 11, was decorated with over 400 metres of Union Flag bunting, with houses on the street also vying to become winner of the best decorated house competition.

The crowd gathered for a meal on tables in the middle of the road, before singing the National Anthem and cutting a wonderful cake that had been made by 12-year-old Katie Lugg.

Members of the community also enjoyed a number of games and activities including tug-of-war, rounders and a dunk tank.

Rebecca Curtis, one of the many guests, said: “It has been a wonderful day, which I think has been especially memorable for the children.

"It makes you feel blessed to live in a street with such a strong community ethos.”
