TWO MEN have been arrested today after throwing a brick from a bridge over the M5 near Avonmouth.
The incident, which took place shortly before 8am this morning, saw a brick shatter the windscreen of a moving lorry after being thrown from a bridge at junction 18.
Fortunately the driver was able to safely stop the vehicle without causing any injuries.
The men, both aged 18, remain in custody at this time.
Sergeant Robert Cheeseman said: “Clearly, this could have had a much more serious outcome.
“It is thanks only to the skill of the lorry driver that no-one was hurt or even killed.
“This senseless crime puts lives at risk each and every time someone throws any object at passing vehicles.
“There have been several similar incidents this year and, as such, the local beat team have increased patrols in the area.
“These men were quickly identified thanks to the hard work of local officers.”
Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to contact 101 and quote crime reference number 5216132364.
