PATIENTS visiting Southmead Hospital now have the ability to take a look around the main Brunel building thanks to a new online photographic tour.

Funding for “Inside Brunel” comes from the Southmead Hospital Charity comes as part of their annual Christmas Cracker grants, with the online tour available on the North Bristol NHS Trust’s website for patients to get to know the building before their visit.

Patients coming to Southmead Hospital can now have a look inside the main Brunel building before they’ve even left home, thanks to funding from Southmead Hospital Charity for a photographic tour of the building.

Funded as part of the charity’s annual Christmas Cracker grants, ‘Inside Brunel’ will be available on North Bristol NHS Trust’s website and will allow patients to get to know the hospital’s main building before they visit.

Providing clear photographic images, taking users through the main front doors and along the full length of the building, showing key areas including reception, patient check-in points, the pharmacy, toilets and cafes, with helpful information also provided along the way.

Southmead Hospital Charity’s Liz Bond said: “Coming to hospital can be a daunting experience, and the charity is delighted to fund projects such as this which help make that a little less frightening for patients and their families.”

“The Brunel building is impressive but its sheer size can make it seem formidable. Inside Brunel should give everyone confidence and reassurance in advance of coming here.

“Each year the charity funds projects within the trust which improve the hospital experience for our patients and we were very happy to support this fantastic project.”

Gill Brook, head of patient experience at North Bristol NHS Trust, adds: “Thanks to Southmead Hospital Charity for funding Inside Brunel, which we hope will improve the experience of our patients.

“We know that coming to hospital can be stressful and finding your way around an unfamiliar environment can add to that stress. We hope that being able to familiarise yourself with the building before you arrive for an appointment will help demystify the experience and help you to feel more relaxed.”
