A SUPERMARKET night worker in Thornbury was found dead in the store’s walk-in freezer after a heart attack on Tuesday morning.

60-year-old Tesco employee Clive Scawen was found unconscious in the cold room by colleagues, who called for emergency services after finding he was not breathing.

A spokesman for the South West Ambulance Service said that staff had reported the incident at 1.22am, stating that the man was “unconscious and not breathing”, and an ambulance was dispatched.

Paramedics worked to revive him for around 40 minutes before he was confirmed dead.

An air ambulance was also dispatched to assist, landing in a field near the leisure centre, but ultimately was not required.

Tesco Thornbury store manager James Fawbert said: “We were deeply saddened by this news and to have lost a much valued and loved colleague from our store.

“Our thoughts are with his friends and family and we will now come together as a team to support each other through this difficult time.”

Police have said that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the incident had been referred to the coroner’s service, attributing the death to sudden death at work through cardiac arrest.
