POLICE are appealing for information on a burglary in Bristol after a 91-year-old war veteran had his medals stolen.

The victim had left the six medals on a kitchen work surface in the house in Wootton Park, ready to be cleaned after a shopping trip on Wednesday, June 22.

He was out of the house between 12.15pm and 2.15pm, and upon his return found that the medals were gone.

It is believed that an intruder entered the house through a back door in that time, taking the collection.

Among the collection was a bronze 3945 star, a bronze France and Germany star and a police long service medal – all were engraved with the victim’s name, the regimental number 2666006 and 5th Battalion Coldstream Guards.

A silver and green French Legion d'Honneur medal and a black wallet which has gold lettering in the bottom right corner were also taken.

Anyone who finds they are offered the medals, or has any information about the burglary, is asked to call 101 quoting reference 5216151507.
