A MEMORIAL folk concert in Thornbury has raised more than £5,200 for charity.

The event raised the money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund in memory of Thornbury musician Andy Graham who passed away in January only a year after being diagnosed with the illness.

More than 170 people were in attendance at The Castle School on June 25 as Andy’s former band MoMac’nMe headlined performances from local folk music acts, which included Channel 35, another group that Andy regularly gigged with.

Guests also enjoyed a hog roast, raffle, tombola and bar, with all funds going to the charity.

“We have had so many people tell us what a great night they have had, and what a happy occasion it has been to raise money in memory of Andy,” said former bandmate Andrew “Mac” Cullen, who organised the event alongside his wife Lynne, and friend Dave Derham.

“When you are involved in organising something like this and you get such generous support from the local community and the business community you realise what a great place this is to live.

“I wish I could shake the hand of everyone who helped us make it such a wonderful night.”

Speaking at the gig, Andy’s daughter Anna Graham said: “My Dad would have loved this evening as it had all the things that were important to him, family, friends, music and beer.”

Mr Cullen added: “We were also fortunate to receive support and donations from both the Thornbury Lions and NFU Mutual which we are truly grateful for, as it means more will be going to charity to fight pancreatic cancer.

“The condition has seen no improvement in survival rates in the past 40 years and it is really important that money goes towards research.”

Donations are still coming in to the fund. To contribute, visit www.pcrf.org.uk or phone Andrew Cullen on 01454 418882.
