A NETBALL tournament, hosted by a club from Olveston, has raised more than £1,200 for charity.

15 teams from the Avon and Back to Netball leagues took to the courts at Bradley Stoke Community School for the friendly tournament in aid of Cancer Research UK.

But despite the “relaxed atmosphere” described by many of the participants, the competitive nature of the day took control with everyone keen to win, and topping the table at the end of the tournament were “Genesis”, with “Bradley Stoke” placing second and “Winterbourne Seconds” in Third.

The event had plenty for the family to do when not watching the games, with a barbeque, tombola, cake bake-off and ice creams.

Bradley Stoke Physio and Active Gym were also present with stands offering competitions, advice and free giveaways throughout the day.

Abbi Cosh, organiser and Olveston club coach, said: “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved today, and we cannot thank all who attended enough for getting on board and helping us raise such a great amount of money.

“I am also very humbled by the hard work my own club members have put in to the event. We truly have a special Netball club and I am honoured to be a part of it.”
