A QUILTER from a group in Thornbury has been crowned the overall champion at this year’s Great Northern Quilt Show.

Frances Meredith, a member of the Severn Valley Quilters took the top prize at the event which was held in Harrogate earlier this month for her quilt entitled “Nearly Insane”

In addition to the award, Frances, who runs Chepstow-based, professional longarm quilting service Fabadashery, also claimed first prize in the bed quilt category and the Longarm Machine Quilting Awards.

Frances said: “There were some amazing quilts at the show, including some very impressive international entrants.

“It was a real honour to be chosen as the show’s overall champion and to have the chance to see my name on the perpetual shield.”

Talking about working with other quilters through Fabadashery, Frances said:“Many quilters like myself gain a lot of pleasure making patchwork quilt tops, but for many the process of quilting the layers of a quilt together can be daunting and time-consuming.

“My customers bring me a wide variety of quilts, both modern and traditional. It is such a pleasure to help quilters complete their sewing projects.”
