BEAVERS, cubs and scouts from Alveston joined volunteers to learn about marine conservation as they joined in a beach clean last Saturday.

A group from the Second Alveston Scout Group helped to remove litter and waste from Sand Bay Beach near Weston-super-Mare during the beach clean organised by the Marine Conservation Society.

Also carrying out a survey of the items they removed, the ten children aged between six and 10-years-old catalogued the rubbish, which included plastic bottles, drinks cans and cotton buds.

The conservation society, who organise numerous beach cleans throughout the year, commended the group, saying they were the largest in number that had attended the sessions on the beach since the gatherings started.

The beavers, cubs and scouts who took part said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience, being able to take part and help make a difference to the environment, adding that they would be very keen to take part again in the future.
