COFFEE and cake was being served in abundance across Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire last week as part of a national charity initiative.
Churches, schools, and community rooms flung open their doors to the public to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of its World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last week.
Hundreds of pounds was again raised by hard-working pupils at North Nibley Primary School who served an enormous variety of cake, coffee and tea to their parents, grandparents and local residents.
With some support from teachers, year five and six pupils ran the successful coffee morning in the school hall, raising £632 for the charity – up from £480 two years ago.
The school’s headteacher, Paul Batchelor, praised the work of pupils and their teacher Becci Surridge who organised the morning. “Service is one of our school values and it is something we try to keep in mind all the time,” he said.
“To do that whilst also raising such a fantastic sum of money is brilliant. It says a lot about the community that we were able to hold the event with so much of their support.
“A lot of credit also has to go to Ms Surridge who organises this for us every two years.”
The event at North Nibley was one of a number held across the region, hosted by a variety of groups and businesses including Bryant and Co Hairdressing, The Swan and NFU Mutual in Thornbury, Yate Library and at St John the Evangelist’s Church in Purton.
