INJURED Thornbury student Lewis Evans could be back in Britain by the end of the weekend, only days after fundraising efforts surpassed the original £30,000 target thanks to incredible support from the community.

The 18-year-old was riding a quadbike in Zante when it crashed into a tree last Monday, October 3, leaving him critically injured with holes in his lungs, a ruptured spleen and fractured vertebrae.

Due to the accident happening while using the vehicle, Lewis’ travel insurance from the Post Office was voided, leaving the family to raise the £30,000 needed to pay for a medical flight home for him.

His family have said that they are in discussion with doctors in Greece on how soon he could be transported home, saying that “all being well, he should be back in the country by the end of the weekend.”
