A HORSE died in a roadside collision between a Ford Focus and a horse rider in Hawkesbury Upton yesterday evening.

Police were called to the incident on Birgage Road, beside Highfields Lane, at 4.17pm.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “The horse rider was taken to Southmead Hospital in an ambulance, but the injuries were not serious.

“Sadly the horse suffered serious injuries and had to be put down at the scene.”

A member of the public said: “It was late afternoon, the sun was going down so the driver could not see.”
