THIEVES smashed through a glass panel of a Thornbury resident's back door and then stole a quantity of jewellery from the home.

Crime scene investigators went to examine the property on Primrose Drive after it was broken into between 12pm and 5pm yesterday.

Officers have also carried out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

One witness has reported seeing two men in the lane behind the house at dusk that day.

Neighbourhood PC Sean White said: "While Thornbury is a safe place to live, we have seen a number of burglaries in South Gloucestershire where the thieves are targeting jewellery, so please look out for your neighbours.

“We would always encourage people to keep items of sentimental value, like jewellery, in a ground anchored safe which meets www.soldsecure.com standards.

"We'd also recommend making sure you lock up and set the alarm at night as well as while you are out. On these darker evenings it's also a good idea to use timer switches for your lights to make it appear someone is at home."

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who has any information which could help the enquiry, or who has been offered jewellery for sale in suspicious circumstances.
