THE LAUNCH of a charity appeal to buy everyone at Southmead Hospital a present this Christmas began yesterday.

A young Bristol-born soprano Laura Curry, and pianist Sandie Middleton performed at the launch of the Great Brunel Buskathon Christmas Special to raise donations for the hospital’s charity Christmas appeal.

The hospital’s charity appeal page stated: “For most of us Christmas is a special time of year, but some people will have to spend it away from their families and their home, in hospital.”

The launch event took place at the hospital’s Brunel building and further live musical Buskathon performances will continue everyday throughout December to collect funds.

Performers from the Buskathon will also play at the Cribbs Causeway John Lewis on Saturday December 10, and Sunday 11.

The John Lewis shop also supported the Christmas appeal by putting together a festive room display at the hospital, featuring cosy armchairs and photographs.

The snug is located in the hospital’s Brunel building where the public can sit down to take a selfie for charity.

The selfies are posted online using #SHCXmas with a donation to the charity appeal.

All of the money goes towards buying a present for every patient and baby who is in hospital at Christmas, so that everyone has something to unwrap.
