A SWAN found wandering along the M5 was rescued by police after they received multiple calls from concerned drivers.
Officers located the bird on the northbound carriageway between the junctions for Thornbury and Stroud, at around 1.30pm on Tuesday, February 14.
Tri-Force police, who deal with the motorways around Bristol and South Gloucestershire, described how they used a “special swan carrier” to transport the swan to safety.
On the Tri-Force twitter account, an image of officers with the swan in question was posted alongside the tweet: “Our answer to @nickjfrost and @simonpegg #HotFuzz attended & used the special swan carrier… and no they weren’t driving #swanselfie
The tweet is referencing a scene in popular film Hot Fuzz, where two Somerset police officers played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up to capture an escaped swan.
