WOMEN across South Gloucestershire are being encouraged to dig out their leg warmers ahead of this year’s St Peter’s Hospice Midnight Walk.

The annual event, a five or 10-mile night time walk around Bristol held on Saturday, July 8, is taking on an 80’s theme this year, with organisers anticipating it to be the biggest yet – with an impressive fundraising target exceeding £100,000.

St Peter’s Hospice events fundraiser Louisa James said: “This year we’re going big and we’re not just talking about hair!

“Our Midnight Walk has grown year on year and now hundreds of women take part and have a great night out while raising money for the hospice.

“Our 2017 theme is 80s; we know that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and that’s just what we’re going to do! We’ll be playing the best 80s tunes to get everyone in the mood and we’re expecting leg warmers and Madonna-style gloves galore!”

The hospice, which provides care and support for more than 2,600 adult patients, costs around £19,000 a day to run.

Ms James added: “The Midnight Walk is our most well-attended and supported fundraiser and has become one of the most popular events in the Bristol calendar over the past few years because of its fun and lively atmosphere.

“With two distances to choose from, this is an event that anyone can take part in. It’s not competitive at all, but it’s a great achievement to complete.

“In the past our supporters have raised over £100,000 from this event and it would be wonderful to reach this target again. All funds go towards caring for our patients with life-limiting illnesses both at the hospice and in the community.”

This year’s event is being sponsored by Canada Life’s Bristol office, which is based in Temple Quay.

Tim Stoves, managing director of Canada Life Group Insurance, said: “The Midnight Walk event has provided us with a great opportunity to align our business with the care provided by St Peter’s Hospice.

“We are proud to sponsor the Walk and wish all the participants the best of luck on the night.”

Earlybird registration for the Midnight Walk is available now for £17.50 per person. Standard registration will be £20.00 per person. Those who register will receive an events pack, including a t-shirt.
