A MAJOR department store with a base at Cribbs Causeway has announced that it is axing nearly 400 jobs.

In its second-biggest round of redundancies ever, John Lewis will cut jobs from its restaurants and home fittings services.

Around 387 roles will be cut in total, but the department store also plans to introduce 386 new roles as a part of a major reshuffle to cut costs and increase efficiency.

Upcoming changes to the store include moving jobs to the main office in Didsbury, Manchester, and axing chefs from the store’s cafes.

As of yet, it is not clear how many employees at the Cribbs Causeway stores will face redundancy.

Dino Rocos, operations director at John Lewis, said: “Our partners are passionate about offering the very best customer service and these proposals will allow us to modernise our business as it adapts to the changing needs of our customers and the role that shops play in their lives.

“We understand that for some this will mean a period of change, and we are working with those affected over the consultation period to give opportunities for redeployment in new roles wherever possible.”
