A FOOD fair promoting healthy living and gluten-free foods is set to take place in Thornbury this April.

With more than 60 suppliers at the Eat Clean Fair, which takes place at Thornbury Leisure Centre on April 2, there will be free samples, live cooking, hot food, beauty treatments, health advice and even a kid’s zone.

The event has been organised by Yate-based Zumba instructors Jodie Horton-Stanley and Tracey Barron who want to encourage healthier eating in South Gloucestershire after experiencing the improvements themselves when they changed their diet.

Ms Horton-Stanley said: "While at first we knew nothing about what was gluten free, we soon learnt through trial and error and after a month eating a clean diet we noticed a huge increase in energy, no stomach pain and bloating after meals and weight loss even though we’d been following the same exercise program for years.

“We were surprised at the lack of choice out there for people with a dietary requirement through health conditions or lifestyle choice and the confusion about what we should be eating to lead a healthier life.”

She said that despite a 13 per cent increase between 2015 and 2016 in sales of foods free from the likes of gluten, wheat and eggs to a staggering £531million, with choices still growing, she found it was hard to find them all in one place.

“That’s why we organised this fair,” she added. “To give people the chance to come and discover new suppliers and to get health advice and support.

“We’re really excited about bringing this event to South Gloucestershire and hope everyone will come along to this fun and informative family friendly day out.

“Sometimes a few small changes are all it takes to set you on the road to a healthier life.”

The Eat Clean Fair will take place on April 2, from 11am to 3pm, with Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall opening proceedings.

The first 100 adult attendees will receive goodie bags. Entry is £3 for adults and free for under 16’s.
