CALLS have been made for volunteers to come forward in Alveston as the village’s hall begins the search for a new bookings secretary.

The Alveston Jubilee Hall has been a pivotal part of the community for the past 120 years, having been built by Edward Bush to celebrate the jubilee of Queen Victoria.

Today the hall supports members of the community of all ages, hosting all manner of meetings and events, and is kept going by a dedicated band of volunteers.

After four productive years, booking secretary Jane King has decided to call it a day and move on to pastures new, having taken on the role to work in the community and keep active following her retirement.

The role itself involves liaising with the groups that regularly use the hall, manage the ad-hoc bookings, which include the likes of business and private functions, christenings and wakes.

Most of the work can be done from home and only require basic computer skills but there are also times where people need to be shown around the hall and meeting room.

For more information, contact Mike Casey on 01454-414448 or 07767 884491. Those interested can also contact Jane herself on 07895 066494.
