NHS workers have one of the toughest jobs in the country, and for the most part they do an incredible job.

At the Gazette, learning that the Frome Valley Medical Centre has received numerous complaints was saddening, because we’re sure that its medical staff work tirelessly to provide the best possible care.

As such, perhaps some of the complaints highlight an issue that is beyond the control of the centre itself - nationwide cuts to NHS services.

Several residents spoke to the Gazette about their long waits for appointments, and in life or death situations this is undoubtedly a major problem.

For illnesses that are not an emergency, however, perhaps longer waiting times are just a symptom of an increasingly pressurised health service.

In the case of Frome Valley, many residents reported great experiences with the centre’s doctors and nurses.

And although legitimate criticism exists, perhaps it should be levied in a different direction - to the people at the top making decisions about the future of our squeezed NHS.
