HUNDREDS of runners will be descending on Oldbury-on-Severn this weekend for the annual Oldbury Fun Run.

More than 800 runners of all ages and experience levels are expected to show up on Sunday to take on the 3.7-mile race with a lot on offer for the family day.

The first race, for adults gets underway outside the Anchor Inn pub at 11am, with the children’s race at 11.10am giving the younger runners a chance to put their best foot forward.

More than 300 people have already signed up to the race online, one of the biggest early registrations in the past two-to-three years.

As with last year, the event’s main benefactor will be charity Clic Sargent, with organisers hoping to raise £10,000 for the cause.

More than £80,000 has been raised in recent years by the fun run for a variety of charities, with many runners also collecting for their own special causes.

As well as the competitive side of racing, with the top racers from the region’s running clubs set to feature, the day will be offering plenty for families, with food stalls, ice cream, live music and a puppet show at pub.

“I can’t wait,” said race organiser Chris Awde. “I am really looking forward to the day.

“We try to cater for people of all abilities and give children a chance to take part with their own event.

“And there is plenty for everyone else to do with all the stalls, plus hopefully those who aren’t racing will be able to line the course and support our runners the best they can.”

“A big thank you goes out to all of our volunteers for giving up their time. While it is only a short race and a one-day event, so much planning goes into it and everyone works really hard to make sure it is a day our visitors can enjoy.

“Just don’t forget to register to race. You can do so online, or at the Anchor Inn every night this week leading up to race day.

“You can also register on the day but we can be oversubscribed, so if you can sign up it beforehand, make sure you do!”
