A FIRE that started in a Patchway fastfood restaurant has caused extensive damage to three properties.

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue used nine fire engines and a turntable ladder to deal with the fire, which started this morning at a two-storey building on Gloucester Road.

A number of adjacent buildings were evacuated as firefighters worked to tackle the blaze, which damaged the roofs of two neighbouring properties.

A lady in her 50s was treated on scene by firefighters for smoke inhalation.

The southbound carriageway of the A38 Gloucester Road had to be closed while firefighters dealt with the fire, but has now re-opened.

It is believed that the fire started accidentally in the ground floor of the property, which is used as a takeaway business.
