PUPILS from a school in Tockington showed great maturity, playing a part in a service of remembrance near Alveston.

The year six pupils from Tockington Manor School attended the Service of Remembrance at the South West Woodland War Memorial near Alveston on June 14.

At the event, 11-year-old Archie Symonds laid a wreath to the sound of a lone bugler playing the Last Post, in honour of servicemen and women who have given their lives in the service of their country.

The school, which celebrates its 70th birthday this year, was founded in 1947 as a boarding school to service military families.

Archie, who said he was very proud to represent his school, added that he “was really nervous laying the wreath.

“It made me feel sad remembering the people who lost their lives,” he said.

Joanna Walker, Tockington Manor School marketing manager, said: "We were very keen to attend this memorial as the school was originally set up to serve forces families.

“As we are celebrating a special birthday this year, we felt it was very important for us to show our support for forces families today."

Also in attendance was Peaches Golding, the Lord Lieutenant of Bristol, who thanked the young people and their teacher for their involvement in the service.
