A THORNBURY resident who had his car vandalised in the early hours of yesterday morning is appealing for help in tracking down the culprits.

Robert Hale, 27, was woken by a neighbour who had witnessed the attack, where two people had smashed in the lights and mirrors on his car, a Hyundai i30.

At the time of the attack, the car had been parked in an off-road private residential car park near his home in Osprey Park, Thornbury.

The neighbour said they saw two people, one male aged around 18-20, wearing a black hoody and light jeans, and a woman around the same age with a white jacket and black hair attack the car at 4.45am.

A metal baseball bat, which was recovered nearby, is being handed to police.

Mr Hale told the Gazette: “I initially assumed someone had reversed into it until I was told it was all four lights and mirrors and that it had been done with a pole or pipe or something round and metallic.

“I went and looked at the damage and was understandably angry but also scared. I was racking my brains to think who I may have upset or who would have a reason to do this and was panicking that they would come back again or attempt to damage my home.”

After an appeal on social media, Mr Hale had a positive response from the community with dozens sharing and commenting on his initial post, offering their support.

He said: “I've been through all the emotions as the day has gone on, from confusion and anger to panic and fear to frustration and back to anger.

“It is scary to know people are out there callously vandalising other people's property for no reason.”

His insurers have said the cost of the damage is likely to be in excess of £1,000.

The Gazette is awaiting a comment from Avon and Somerset Police.
