A PRIMARY school in Thornbury took their summer fayre to a galaxy far, far away this weekend with a special Star Wars theme.

The theme for the Crossways Schools summer event, which was chosen by pupils and parents, proved popular, with a range of games on offer, like “Death Star Jar” and “Pin the lightsaber on Yoda”, as well as the popular “Federation Farmers plant stall.”

But the star attraction of the day was the collection of life-sized Star Wars characters, including Darth Vader, Yoda and Chewbacca, which were on hand for guests to grab a selfie with.

As well as the themed attractions, the fayre offered some of the classics, including Splat the Rat, hook a duck and inflatable 10-pin bowling, taking the number of stalls to well over a dozen.

Other popular stalls included “Yucky Dip” and the very wet “Slippery Death Slider”.

There was entertainment running through the afternoon, with performances from both the Infant and Junior School choirs and Castle School’s junior steel band Steel Storm, as well as a lively set from Streetenvy Dance Academy, who finished their showcase by getting into the spirit of the day with a Star Wars-themed routine.

Also on display were all entries from the school’s colouring competition and vegetable monster competition, with prizes being awarded on the day to many of the amazing entries.

A spokesman from the Crossways PTA said they were “very pleased with the amount of families who came along to share this special day with us.

We certainly have a great school community here at Crossways."

Executive head teacher Mark Toogood added: “The fayre was a very successful event with a lovely atmosphere.

“Thank you to everyone who turned up and especially to all of the CPTA members who worked so hard leading up to the fayre and all through the day.”
