ANOTHER very interesting meeting was held by Thornbury WI on Tuesday, June 20.

Sue Horsfall welcomed 30 members and one guest.

She thanked the members who organized and ran the coffee and cake morning at The Methodist Church Hall which raised over £200 for our chosen charity.

Sue Horsfall then introduced Sally Taylor, who came to talk to members about flower arranging.

Members had brought along a huge variety of different flowers and greenery, along with dishes and oasis.

Sally gave a very interesting demonstration on how to make a flower arrangement.

Having soaked the oasis and anchored it to the base, she showed us how to cover the foundation with greenery.

You then build up the flower arrangement, starting with the largest blooms and filling in any gaps with the smaller flower heads.

She also demonstrated how to personalize an arrangement with ribbons bows or anything else relevant to the purpose of the piece, whether it be for a wedding, birthday, anniversary etc.

The efforts of the members were very varied, some were amazing and some not quite so amazing, but thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The raffle was drawn and tea and coffee was served.

Our meetings are held every third Tuesday at The Methodist Church Hall at 7.30pm, and newcomers are always welcome.

Our next speaker will be Wimbledon linesman Brian Partridge.
