A WEEK-long art exhibition in Thornbury has celebrated one if it’s most successful years ever, with more than 900 people coming to enjoy the work on display.

The showcase of Thornbury Art Club’s work in their summer exhibition at the Methodist Church Hall, which ran between Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, August 6, featured more than 200 pieces of different styles from 50 club members and members of the Thornbury Stroke Support Group.

Many of the paintings went on to be sold as well as almost £900-worth of card prints.

A favourite part of the exhibition is the competition for the most popular piece, with a very even split of opinions being cast from the 491 that voted.

The winning piece was the watercolour “Sunrise at Wareham” by Brian Elliot, who wins vouchers to spend on art materials.

In second place was Don Brown with his acrylic “Lady in Red”, in third was Anne McAllister’s acrylic “What's Up?” and fourth was another acrylic, “The Friendly Cow” by Katrina Novak.

Thornbury Art Club chairman Tricia Latham extended her thanks to everyone that voted.

“It is not an easy task with so many paintings to choose from,” she said. “Particularly when several paintings might catch your eye and appeal for very different reasons.

“People took great care in making their choices, so we want to say a very big thank you to them.”
