AT our July meeting – Members’ Night – we visited `Organic Blooms’ at Latteridge, where we enjoyed a pleasant evening learning about the work which goes on behind this cut flower farm.
They achieved Soil Association Certification earlier this year and grow a wide range of flowers both in greenhouses and in the open.
Since our meeting last month, some members have taken advantage of AFWI events at the Federation Lunch at Bristol Golf Club and to Stratford-on-Avon and its theatre, both of which were most enjoyable.
August is the traditional Summer break, but on August 26 there will be a Tytherington Fun Day and Beer Festival, held at Hardwicke Field, starting at 1.30pm when the WI will be responsible for the cake stall.
Our next WI meeting will be on Monday, September 18, with a talk by Dr Francis Burroughs entitled ‘A Victorian Head Gardener’, and the competition will be for a funny shaped vegetable.
