AN AMAZING £2,000 has been raised by a community group in Thornbury for St Peter’s Hospice Room to Care appeal.

The Severn Support Group, which has been active in Thornbury for more than 30 years, presented the funds raised from fundraising activities at their annual golf day at Thornbury Golf Club on Friday, October 6.

Almost £700 of the funds came from the group's summer party as well as the golf day, which has been run for more than 20 years.

The money will go directly to the hospice’s Room to Care Appeal, which was launched last week to raise funds to complete the redevelopment of their new inpatient unit.

“We are ever so grateful to the Severnside Support Group,” said Petra Littlefair, St Peter’s Hospice Room to Care Appeal coordinator.

“The money they have raised and the support they have provided over the years has made a huge difference to St Peter’s Hospice, and has helped ensure we can continue to provide outstanding care to patients and families throughout Bristol and beyond.”

The redesign and rebuild of the Inpatient Unit at the hospice’s Brentry site is going to cost £6.53million, and the hospice needs to raise the final £1.53million of this over the next 12 months.

The unit is temporarily relocating to a site in Keynsham during this time, while the build is completed.

The new Inpatient Unit will be an upgrade to 15 individual ensuite rooms, allowing the hospice to reach 95 per cent bed occupancy.

Over the next 20 years the redeveloped IPU is expected to support 6,250 patients and around 18,500 relatives and friends.
