RESIDENTS across South Gloucestershire are being asked to put forward their views on “inconvenient” opening hours of their local Sort-it recycling centres.

The call for feedback from Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall comes after residents claimed the centres’ 4.30pm closure every day of the week are problematic for working families.

Sort-it Centres provide daily coverage for residents to recycle household waste and are run by South Gloucestershire Council.

In response to the concerns, Mr Hall raised the issue with SGC’s waste department to understand their position. The team have responded saying that it is believed that the present hours offer the best hours with the budget available, and that previous later opening hours had seen a low number of people using the service.

The MP is now seek residents thoughts on whether a trial period, offering a shifted opening hours towards the end of the day, would be used by residents, if this was placed on one day of the week.

Mr Hall said: “Just as the Mall offers late night shopping on a Thursday, many people are asking whether the Sort-it Centre should offer later access one night a week.

“As a Yate resident myself, I am asking for feedback on whether there is enough demand for the centre to open later and close later one day a week.”

Anyone wishing to offer their own feedback can email luke.hall.mp@parliament.uk, call 01454 311 267 or post their thoughts to 26 High Street, Chipping Sodbury, BS37 6AH.
