A SURVEY has been launched by a community group in a bid to gain views on a cycling and walking path to link Wotton, Charfield and Kingswood.

The Wotton, Charfield and Kingswood Greenway Group launched its transport survey on Saturday.

Stroud district councillor Catherine Braun was involved in setting up the group and says there is lots of local interest in the project.

“This survey is just the first step in the Greenway Group project for a safe, traffic free route for walkers, cyclists and others in the local area.

“If the survey results show that there is sufficient demand, there will be a strong case for a feasibility study, to investigate possible options for routes and costs.

“There is lots of local interest and support for the idea of a greenway, and there would be many benefits, including a reduction in car journeys, congestion and pollution, and improvements in health and wellbeing.”

The survey can be completed up until December 21, after which the responses will be collated to gain an insight into how many journeys people make between the three towns, for what purpose and by which mode of transport – among other details.

It has been supported by Renishaw, the Wotton Community Sports Foundation along with the area’s town and parish councils.

South Gloucestershire councillor for Charfield, John O’Neill said the scheme was of particular interest for the younger generation, such as pupils attending Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School.

“I am very supportive of the Greenway Project which would allow residents, particularly the young people of Charfield a safe and healthy access route to KLB School and the Wotton Community Sports Foundation,” said Cllr O’Neill.

“With a potential reopened railway station at Charfield gathering momentum this would also offer a commuter route for cyclists from Wotton and Kingswood to the station.”

The survey can be completed online via www.wckgreenwaygroup.org and paper copies are also available from the One Stop Shop in Wotton and the service stations in Wotton and Charfield.
