PROPOSALS to install a new path, planted trees and a French boules rink on a green space in Thornbury are set to go to public consultation.

The plans put forward by Thornbury Town Council would look to improve Oakleaze Green, a site they own and maintain, with members of the public being asked to comment on the plans in the consultation running throughout this month.

The new path, which would run from St David’s Road to Oakleaze Road would formalise the current walkthrough, which is well used and often gets muddy, with the suggestion having been put forward by children walking to school.

Three small trees would also be planted adjacent to the end property on Elmdale Crescent.

The Petanque court – also known as a French boules rink – would measure 15metres by 4metres with edging and a gravel and dust service and benches.

Funding for this feature would potentially be available from the development of the former police station site on Rock Street, which must be used to provide courts or pitches to serve the needs of residents living in this new housing.

According to the council, the Oakleaze field is the closest public open space that is big enough for the facilities, while meeting the needs of the residents and the wider community.

They said are particularly keen to understand the demand for this facility and its potential level of use from all members of the community.

Cllr Clive Parkinson, chairman of the Town Council’s playing fields and cemetery committee, said: “As a town council we are continually striving to improve the facilities we can offer local residents and ensure that money from new developments positively contributes to our community and these plans are an example of this.

“We are keen to gather the views of local people on these proposals before any decisions are made.”

Further information and a plan showing the potential location of these three features is available from the Town Hall or from www.thornburytowncouncil.gov.uk.

Comments on the proposals can be made by writing to the Town Council or by emailing info@thornburytowncouncil.gov.uk.
