AN AMAZING £1,800 has been raised by a bowling club in Olveston for charity.

The money was presented by Olveston and District Bowling Club to Above and Beyond, who support nine hospitals in the Bristol area by helping to fund new equipment, research, staff training and improving the hospital environment,  spending around £3million each year.

Handing over the cheque to charity representative Amy Barnard-Smith, the club’s president Ray Worsley said the moment had a particularly special significance for him.

"In 2014 I was unfortunate to be very ill and it was down to the skills of the staff in Bristol Royal Infirmary that I am here today," he said.

"When I became president, I announced that I was naming Above and Beyond as my charity for the year and the support I've had from club members, friends and family has been enormous.

“They are the ones who have helped me to say a big thank you to the medical staff in Bristol".

Expressing her gratitude for the donation, Ms Barnard-Smith said: “Our charity work is patient lead and it is people like Ray who have experienced the benefits of the treatment they have received, help us to support the hospitals in Bristol.”
