TWO volunteers of a charity in Thornbury have been celebrated for their “extraordinary contributions” over more than ten years of service at a special event.

Having given their time to Brain Tumour Support since its formative years as Hammer Out, Mary Mckeown and Alison Chalkley’s efforts in an array of roles were recognised by their colleagues at Papilio in Hertiage, across the road from their office on Thornbury High Street on Wednesday.

Through the years, the pair have been invaluable to the team which works to ensure no one feels alone when facing the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis.

They were commended at the event for their dedicated and committed approach to volunteering has helped to provide consistent support with essential tasks such as banking and administrative assistance and were both presented with the Brain Tumour Support Volunteer Award for Outstanding Contribution.

Brain Tumor Support CEO and founder Tina Mitchell Skinner, said: “Mary and Alison started volunteering over ten years ago and have contributed enormously to the growth of the charity during this time.

“As a charity, we cannot survive without the commitment and dedication that people like this give.”

Rhi Ashford, the charity’s volunteer coordinator, added: “It has been lovely to celebrate Alison and Mary’s contributions today.

“We at Brain Tumour Support are very privileged to be joined by volunteers from all sections of the local community and it is always a joy to celebrate their successes.”
