A SEVEN-year-old girl from Thornbury has raised an incredible £1,000 ahead of having her long hair cut off for charity.

Harley Shapland, whose long brown hair sweeps down past her waist, will have the chop for the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for cancer patients.

The St Helen’s Primary School, Alveston, pupil was inspired to make the commitment to charity by grandmother Shelley Shapland, who mentioned the charity, with mum Charlie saying “the idea just stuck with her”.

"This is something that Harley has wanted to do for quite some time, which is why she has continued to grow her hair as long as it is now,” said Charlie.

“As Harleys mum I am tremendously proud of her kind hearted nature towards helping others. She loves her long hair but when she learnt that some children become poorly and lose their hair she wanted to help.

“We are also raising money for the charity and the support has been amazing. Thank you for every donation to this truly worthy cause."

Harley will have her haircut on May 5 in her grandad Chris Shapland’s barber shop in Thornbury.

In promoting the haircut and fundraising campaign, her grandparents said they were “extremely proud of how thoughtful and caring Harley has always been and this is something that she wants to do to help make a difference".
