CHILDREN from Manorbrook School in Thornbury have been visited by the BBC as part of a special project helping to improve the lives of elderly people across the region.

To help raise funds as part of BBC Bristol’s Alive Appeal, children at Manorbrook School took part in a non-uniform day.

Excitingly, they also received a visit from BBC Radio Bristol’s Joe Lemer who joined in with some ‘air guitar’ playing before he interviewed them about their involvement in the Paint Pals project.

This project saw children visit a care home in Thornbury where they formed one-to-one relationships with the residents and worked together on different art projects such as collages and paintings.

Explained why the school decided to get involved, Manorbrook’s head teacher, Darren Stanley said: “We really wanted to help the children develop important relationships with older people within the community.”

As part of BBC Radio Bristol’s visit, the children helped Mr Lemer complete a history quiz live on air before he headed off to other schools to complete further challenges and to continue to raise awareness of the appeal.

The school raised an impressive £115 from the non-uniform day for the Alive Appeal, which is working to make a positive difference to the lives of older people across the region.
