PEOPLE in Wick, Pucklechurch, Badminton and Tormarton are among the first in South Gloucestershire to benefit from superfast broadband.
New green street cabinets serving around 2,200 residential and business premises are now live.
To order the new fibre service, residents and businesses need to contact an internet provider and select a suitable broadband package.
The £35.6 million Great Western Broadband (GWB) project is a partnership between South Gloucestershire Council, Wiltshire Council and BT and is on track to enable more than 5,000 premises in South Gloucestershire to connect by the summer.
Cllr John Goddard, chairman of South Gloucestershire Council’s resources sub-committee, said: “Broadband remains a key priority for South Gloucestershire Council; having already invested over £2million into this complex infrastructure project we have just agreed a further £350,000 of funding to help extend the coverage.”
The authority has also announced that Severn Beach will be the next area in the rollout scheme with superfast broadband ready to order in the autumn.
