STAFF and customers at a Chipping Sodbury pub have raised thousands of pounds after stripping off for charity.

Regulars and employees at The Squire Inn on Broad Street have collected £2,000 for two different cancer charities following the success of their naked calendars at the end of last year.

More than 30 people bared all for two separate 2014 calendars, a male and a female version, which were sold to customers, family and friends in aid of Breast Cancer UK and the Everyman Cancer Appeal.

Business partner James Gale, who organised the risqué appeal, said: “We are really pleased with that amount. I don’t think you ever quite know how much to aim for but we were hoping to raise at least £1,000. However, we surpassed that and will now give £1,000 to each charity.

“We sold between 200 and 300 calendars and we would like to thank everyone who bought one.”

Each page of the calendars, which were shot by Chipping Sodbury photographer Rich McDonough, was sponsored by a local business.

Said Mr Gale: “We would really like to thank all the sponsors because if it wasn’t for them the production costs would not have been covered and we would only have raised about half the money we did.

“We also want to say a huge thanks to everyone who took part in the calendars.”

He said The Squire, and its sister pubs The Bell at Old Sodbury and The Swan at Nibley, were likely to join forces for a 2015 version.

“We are definitely going to do it again as a lot of people have said they would like to get involved this time or take part again,” said Mr Gale. “We are considering doing a tri-pub calendar to give us more options for different pictures and we will do it earlier this year so we have longer to promote and sell the calendars.”

Charities for next year’s calendars are currently being decided. Anyone who would like to take part in the 2015 fundraising initiative or any businesses which would like to sponsor a page should contact Mr Gale via james@innexcessinns.co.uk
