A MAN from Yate has been charged with the attempted murder of an inmate at Bristol Prison.
On Thursday, June 26 a 37-year-old prisoner was assaulted and left with life-threatening injuries in what police are treating as a hate crime.
He remains in hospital.
Police said they launched an investigation immediately and a man was arrested and released on bail while inquiries continued.
Today (Tuesday, August 12) Ryan Guest, 34, has been charged with attempted murder and will appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Guest, of Birkdale in Yate, is in custody at Bristol Prison.
A police spokesman said they were treating the incident as a hate crime.
The family of the victim said in a statement: “Our family is devastated by this hate crime and hopes that justice will now be done.”
Police have divulged any further information about the attack.
