A CHARITY has chosen a new retail area of Chipping Sodbury to open its first shop in the district.

Children’s charity Barnardo’s has taken over one of the units in Hatherall’s Yard, which links the town’s High Street with a Waitrose store at Barnhill Quarry.

The store is the charity’s first shop in the district and will help to raise money for vulnerable children across the UK. Staff are now keen to receive donations including good-quality clothing, books, DVDs, toys, games, accessories and homeware.

Area business manager Rob Scott said: “We are delighted to be opening a new shop in South Gloucestershire, making it even easier for local people to bring donations or buy a bargain.

“They will be helping to raise much-needed funds to support the charity’s work with children and young people affected by poverty, abuse, disability and discrimination.”

The team consists of sales assistants Briana Lovett, Franca Oakley and Frances Shield, although a vacancy remains for a shop manager.

The charity is also looking for local volunteers who can spare a few hours a week to help the staff with sorting stock and serving customers.

Rob added: “We hope to become an important part of the local community. Volunteering provides valuable experience for those seeking employment, as well as a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.

“We hope the residents of Chipping Sodbury will help us to give a brighter future to disadvantaged children and young people.”

The Barnardo’s shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm and will eventually open on Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
